![]() You want to keep the swelling to a minimum, especially since this is what is going to cause you most of the pain if it is not managed. Managing Swelling and Pain After an ExtractionOur oral surgeon will most likely recommend or prescribe you medication that helps with both the swelling and pain. Always take the medication on time to reduce the chances of having the swelling or the pain become worse. You can also apply cold packs to the area where the swelling is happening. This can reduce the swelling in that area while making sure that you do not aggravate it anymore. Make sure to put the cold packs over the side that is swelling on the outside of the cheek. Over the counter medications and anti-inflammatories can provide you with a way to manage the pain that you have, but also reduce the swelling at the same time. Try to refrain from eating for a few hours to let the area settle so you do not irritate it any more. Drinking should also be kept to a minimum as you do not want to wash out the site in the beginning and let it heal on its own. Speak with our oral surgeons regarding the extraction that you have had done or need to have done. They can provide more insight regarding the extraction site, what to expect and how to care for it. You want to make sure that you're doing the best that you can to keep the site as clean as possible. Call us today to learn more! |
