Can Eating Only Soft Foods Hurt Your Teeth?

Dental Health Drs. Scheetz & Rekos: Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons of Ohio OH 43017Eating soft foods is something that not only helps your teeth when it comes to protecting them from something that is going to stab into the gums or break a tooth.

However, it is also something that is going to harm the teeth if this is all that you eat. This is because the teeth need more than soft foods in order to be healthy and strong.

Here is more information about the diet that you should have and the textures of foods that you should incorporate into your diet.

Adding in a Mix of Textures for Better Dental Health

When it comes to adding in a mix of textures to your diet, you need to make sure that you have both soft and hard foods. The hard food is going to be able to scratch on the outside of the teeth and help them become stronger.

You are using the teeth to chew through them. Additionally, the harder, crunchier foods can scrub away any decay and build up that is found on the outside.

Peanuts and other nuts are great for this and are loaded with vitamins and nutrients that are also great for both bones and teeth.

Choosing to mix both soft and hard foods, while also ensuring that you have a good selection of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants can help you build stronger teeth that are much healthier than without the right mix in your diet.

If you want to find out if the diet you are eating is best for your oral health or if you want more information on having a dental exam, give our dental office a call.
